Why Falakro is Greece's alpine gem
Exploring Falakro Ski Center: Greece's Alpine Gem 🎿
Nestled in the northern part of Greece, near the city of Drama, nothing to do with Entourage (if you know, you know) Falakro Ski Center is a destination that blends natural beauty with adventure, offering a unique experience for winter sports enthusiasts. Known as the "Mountain of Flowers," Falakro captivates visitors with its pristine landscapes, impressive slopes, and exceptional hospitality, making it a must-visit for those seeking an escape into Greece’s snow-capped serenity.
It was founded in 1980 by the Alpine Club of Drama to cater to the recreational and sports needs of the surrounding area. Over time, the resort grew in popularity and is now a top destination for visitors from northern Greece. The distance from Athens is 675 kilometers, about seven-and-a-half hours by car.
Falakro Mountain rises to an elevation of 2,232 meters (7322 feet) making it one of the tallest peaks in northern Greece. Its name, translating to “Bald Mountain,” highlights the vast, treeless alpine expanses that dominate its upper regions.
The area is a haven for nature lovers, with its surrounding forests, wildlife, and geological features creating a picturesque setting. The mountain blooms with colorful wildflowers in warmer months, but it transforms into a winter wonderland from December to March, attracting skiers and snowboarders from across Greece and beyond.
